St. Louis County Public Works has scheduled a 2020 bridge reconstruction project located on CSAH 5, crossing over Sturgeon River and approximately 200’ south of Riverside Inn in Side Lake, MN. Reconstruction of the bridge is expected to begin August 3 rd , 2020. CSAH 5 will be closed to through traffic during construction operations, from August 3rd through October 3rd , 2020. A signed detour route utilizing Green Rock Road, CSAH 65 (Sturgeon Road) and McCarthy Beach Road will be in place. Advanced warning signs specifying the road closure date will be placed 30 calendar days prior to the detour going into effect.
Officials from St. Louis County will be holding a Public Informational Meeting/Open House on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 at 5:30 pm at the Side Lake Recreation Site. The meeting is planned to be held in the open-air Pavilion to allow proper social distancing. All interested persons are invited to attend.
Major project activities include removal of the existing County Bridge 634, construction of new County Bridge 634, and approximately 400 feet of roadway grading and paving on CSAH 5. The new bridge will consist of a single span precast beam bridge and will be eight (8) feet wider than the existing structure to meet Minnesota’s minimum design standards.
The awarded Contractor for this project is S&R Reinforcing, Inc. coming in with a project total of $918K. The project will be 100% funded by State Aid dollars. The Minnesota Department of Transportation(MnDOT) distributes State Aid funds for highway maintenance and construction to counties, cities and townships based on a formula determined by the Legislature in which St. Louis County receives approximately $15.8M annually. S&R Reinforcing is the Prime Contractor and it is highly likely that they will have multiple subcontractors on the project.
